Show Preview: Cass McCombs at The Earl [+ Win Tickets!]

This weeks featured show is Cass McCombs at The Earl on Thursday, January 19th. It’s one show I’m looking very much forward to because I had to miss his last round due to conflicts and I’ve heard great things about his live show.

If you’re not familiar with Cass McCombs, you should probably take a second to get acquainted. It’s quite an accomplishment to release one great album in a single year, but 2011 saw the release of both the highly acclaimed Wit’s End and the follow-up Humor Risk in the same exact year. Just as I was over saturating myself with Wit’s End by listening to “County Line” (one of the best songs of the year for good reason) on constant, slow-burning, repeat, I found out that he would be releasing a follow-up in the fall. That follow up was Humor Risk, a change-of-pace described as “an attempt at laughter instead of confusion, chaos instead of morality”.

Cass McCombs often fills is songs with stories about others than himself. It’s rare that one musician could have multiple spots on my best of year list, but both “County Line” and “The Same Thing” from Humor Risk could easily be in my top songs of the year. 2011 has come to a close, and Cass McCombs is touring around Humor Risk and will be stopping by The Earl this Thursday. Doors are at 8:30 and tickets are $10 advance and $12 day of show.

UPDATE: We have 2 tickets to give away for this promotion! If you’d like to enter, just send an email to tim [at] imabearetc.com with the subject “Cass McCombs Rocks!”. Winner will be randomly selected on Thursday morning!
