How cool is Spree Wilson? I mean his name is Spree Wilson. I’ve seen this kid around Atlanta, and with Small Eyez and his Radiant Kids. I even got to hang out with him in a hotel room in Austin. But I really love this new video and the song. A lot of his other pieces you’ll hear some great hip-hop and rock mix, but in this video we get to see a little more soul from Spree Wilson. Or I think so anyway. So here’s the video and you should probably check it out and then see his little live show, because it’s pretty great.
If my obsession with female singers fronting indie rock bands is not normal, I don’t know want to know what normal is. Sure, I love Annie Clark (St. Vincent), RĂ©gine Chassagne (Arcade Fire), and more recently Alexis from Sleigh Bells. The latest I’ve got the pleasure of hearing is Holly Miranda. When I first heard her voice, I thought it sounded too much like Jenn Wasner from Wye Oak, but then I listened to the full-length The Magician’s Private Library and I was blown away. A little bit on the heavily-produced side, but still a gem in a group of great albums to come out in early 2010.
So if heavily produced is not your thing, this video from Yours Truly will have you excited because it’s a stripped down (not stripped, just stripped down sound) acoustic performance of “Waves”. That makes it sound even sweeter to hear her end the track with the line “We wait so long to become just one heart.” Also; make sure to download the track from the record below too!

So check out the above video. If you haven’t been keeping an eye on Beck’s Record Club collaborations, you probably should because this latest one is quite amazing. You’ll notice that Annie Clark of St. Vincent guests, along with Liars and Sergio Dias from Os Mutantes. They cover INXS’s “Guns in the Sky”, and yes, they do a better version than INXS. I wouldn’t expect anything less from Beck and company. I won’t say any more, but check out Annie Clark and her knob-turning greatness right now.

Stop the presses! Bruce Willis, fresh off the blow of terrible write-ups for Cop Out, has decided to go all Die Hard and star in a Gorillaz video. In case you haven’t heard the track yet, Stylo is the first single off a Plastic Beach, the follow up to Demon Days. The track features some sweet Bobby Womack vocals (he apparently only did the tracks on Plastic Beach because his daughter is a fan of Gorillaz) and Mos Def phoning in his part (it literally sounds like he is doing is vocals from a phone).
Watch closely and you’ll see Stylo fly through a billboard for Superfast Jelly Fish, the most-likely second single from Plastic Beach. The album itself is pretty good too, but i’m a sucker for anything Damon Albarn is invested in. Would it kill him to bring Blur on tour to the US? Apparently.
